A local soldier is lost in Afghanistan

Buffalo, NY – A Western New York man has lost his life in Afghanistan.

Twenty-one year old Army Specialist Blake Whipple was killed on Friday when an improvised explosive device, or IED, detonated in the Ghazi Province of Afghanistan.

Whipple was an Amherst resident, where his family still resides.

The soldier was a member of the 7th Battalion, 10th Sustainment Brigade from the 10th Mountain Division of Fort Drum in New York. He is survived by his parents and two siblings. His body will be received by the family today.
