Buffalo, NY – A Buffalo nun will be leaving for a mission in Haiti early Friday morning.

Sister Mary Johnice is executive director of the Response to Love Center. She is well-known for her work with the poverty stricken throughout the Buffalo community, but now she wants to assist in the on-going earth-quake relief effort in Haiti.

"I've worked Ground Zero, I've worked in the toughest neighborhood", said Johnice.

When the devastating quake rocked Haiti seven months ago, Sister Johnice was ready to offer help, but wasn't able to leave Buffalo at the time.

"I wanted to go help right away. The safety was the issue at that time, my brother was ill and I said God if you really want me to do this, if it is yours, send me", said Johnice.

A few months later Sister Johnice heard from her order of the Felician Sisters. They called asking for a new round of volunteers.

Some of the Felician Sisters have been working with the orphans and at medical dispensers. Johnice said she is willing to work in whatever capacity they need her in Haiti.

"I've seen a lot of children and I would really like to respond to them", said Johnice.

Johnice says deplorable conditions remain for those effected by the quake. Many children loss their parents, while other parents search for their children. Johnice will stay about two and a half weeks in Haiti. But hopes to return if conditions allow. She has been warned it will be strenuous. But Johnice said it will be her mission of helping others.
