Buffalo, NY – As the popularity of social media has exploded more people are spending time on-line talking instead of face-to-face. But social media, like facebook and Twitter, will bring bloggers together Wednesday night for a world-wide celebration for a Social Media day in Buffalo.

Social media is usually conducted while siting at your computer or perhaps with an iphone. But Wednesday night Buffalo-area bloggers and tweeters will be getting together at one location to socialize. They will gather for a Buffalo Mashable Meetup.

"I just found the Meetup and I threw it out on Twitter and a couple of people jumped on it," said Keith Stephan-Giermek.

Stephan-Giermek helped organize the event. It will be part of more than 500 worldwide celebrations in honor of Social Media Day.

The "meetup: will be held at the Merge Restaurant on Delaware Avenue in Buffalo. It will feature live entertainment food and drinks allowing an in-person networking session for social media backers.

"People like to tap into the wider community, and social media sort of provides an extra layer of information that people can participate in," said Stephan-Giermek.

The event will also feature live facebook posts and tweets on Twitter. Organizers say this will allow social media advocates to personally meet others they may only know by their Twitter handles or Facebook profiles.

They say Social Media Day is a great chance to blend the the new digital medium with real social contact and perhaps make deeper, lasting human connections.
