Buffalo, NY – The consensus regarding the federal stimulus program is that it did help save the economy from a depression. Questions do linger, however, as to how effectively the monies did actually stimulate local economies.
An investigation by the Buffalo News shows that nearly four hundred and sixty million dollars in stimulus money helped to patch a broken economy in Erie and Niagara Counties but that the effort created few new jobs. The majority of the money was designated for transportation and education with fewer than three hundred jobs created in those areas between February of 2009 and March of 2010.
The News does state that figures reported may not be accurate because of variances in how entities reported their data.
