Fire in Buffalo kills man in wheelchair

Buffalo, NY – Fire claimed the life of a Buffalo man late Tuesday night.
City firefighters responded to the fire in a one-and-a-half story home on Wyoming Avenue around 11pm. Fire officials say the victim -- a man in his late 50s -- was using a wheel chair and was unable to escape the flames. His name has not been released.
A daughter who was also inside the home at the time was able to get out.
Fire Commissioner Garnell Whitfield says the home was fully engulfed when they arrived.
"Members of Engine 23 made a push to go inside. There were reports of persons trapped," Whitfield said. "They did enter the building initially but were not able to reach the victim."
The flames spread to a neighboring house, which was heavily damaged. The cause is under investigation.
