North Tonawanda, NY – The New York State Canal Corporation unveiled plans Tuesday for the new Canalway Water Trail. The map-based trail will guide boaters to boat launches, landings and campsites along 524-mile canal system.
Canal Corporation Director Carmella Mantello says making the waterway more attractive for users is the goal here.
"The new interactive map will enable canal users to better understand the launch options and amenities available to them as well as offer them invaluable assistance for planning their trips," Mantello said. "The Canalway Water Trail is a coordinated effort that will allow small boaters to intimately explore the canal system's natural, cultural and historic wonders for a day, a week, or a lifetime."
Mantello said there will be launch sites for boats every ten to 15 miles.
