Buffalo, NY – Former Niagara Falls Mayor Vince Anello pleaded not guilty Tuesday to new charges he stole more than $94,000 from a local union pension fund.
Federal prosecutors charged Anello with embezzlement and filing false documents with his union, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 237.
Anello pleaded not guilty in November 2008 to charges that he accepted $40,000 from a businessman during and after his 2003 mayoral campaign and later steered a city contract to the contributor. He appeared before another federal judge Tuesday on these charges as he awaits a trial date.
Anello served as mayor from January 2004 until the end of 2007.
