Veterans' group begins "Operation Stanz"

By Joyce Kryszak

Buffalo, NY –

A Boston, New York family is saying special thanks this Memorial Day. Their son, Staff Sergeant John Stanz, is one of the lucky ones who survived combat in Afghanistan. It is the Marine who describes himself as lucky. He was injured in war, not once, but twice. The last time in August, nearly fatally. Now disabled, Stanz is back home with his parents in Boston rebuilding his life. He's getting some help from the newly formed advocacy group, Vets HERD. This Friday they begin work on an addition to the home designed especially for Stanz. He talked with WBFO's Joyce Kryszak about how important their efforts are to him as he continues heal.
