Union flap could delay pilot training reforms

By Chris Jamele

Buffalo, NY – As Families of Continental Flight 3407 continue their battle to reform pilot training requirements, their efforts could be undermined by a battle between cargo carriers.

The Buffalo News reports that part of the Federal Aviation Administration's training mandates for pilots covers those pilots that fly for UPS and FedEx, who receive the extensive training being sought for passenger pilots. However, a union issue between the cargo carriers that involves drivers and not pilots threatens to kill the bill completely.

As the battle between UPS and FedEx continues, stringent reforms in training requirements for passenger pilots could be stalled for the near future.
