Lobbyists become an expense for state's colleges

By Chris Jamele

Buffalo, NY – The use of lobbyists in Albany by the state's colleges and universities is becoming increasingly commonplace, and it is becoming expensive.

Reports show that close to one million dollars was spent just this year alone on lobbyists for these institutions. The University at Buffalo pays nearly one hundred and fifty thousand dollars to three lobbying firms. As state budgets get tighter and tighter, school leaders claim that the need for influence with policymakers becomes more important.

Critics charge that too much money is being spent for these lobbyists.
