Buffalo, NY – Catholic Charities has set a $10.5 million goal for this year's appeal. That's about $100,000 more than the amount raised last year but lower than the 2009 goal of $11 million.

Last year's campaign struggled in the sluggish economy. But campaign organizers say there's a greater sense of hope this year.

"I think it's fair to say that at this time last year, when our Appeal team was standing before you to announce the campaign goal and theme, we were all feeling the effects of what was a bad economic year for businesses and families across the nation," said chair Mark Whipple. "And I think it's fair to say that today, as we rally together to help the tens of thousands of children, families and seniors served by this special organization, we are feeling a bit more hope along the horizon."

The theme of this year's Appeal is "Whoever. Wherever. Whenever." The official "Appeal Week" will take place March 21 through March 28. But the drive will continue through the end of the Catholic Charities' fiscal year on June 30th.

Catholic Charities is the region's largest private provider of human services.
