Buffalo, NY – Penn Traffic will close 55 grocery stores across the state by next February, including all 13 Quality Markets in Western New York. Penn Traffic filed for bankruptcy protection last week.
Among the Quality Markets that will close are its two remaining locations in the immediate Buffalo area -- Main Street and Union Road in Williamsville and Lockport. Another 11 stores in the Southern Tier will also close.
The Western New York closings will affect 600 workers. However, Penn Traffic is hoping a buyer can be found for some or all of the stores to keep the workers employed.
