Buffalo, NY – Firefighters from across the nation and Canada are in Buffalo for today's funerals for two firefighters who died in the line of duty. Lt. Charles McCarthy and firefighter Jonathan Croom died Monday morning while battling a blaze at a two-story building on Genesee Street. They fell through the first floor while searching for a victim they believed was trapped inside.

Lt. McCarthy's funeral was held at St. Joseph Cathedral this morning. He was remembered by friend Lt. John Keohane for his "great Irish smile."

Firefighter Croom's funeral is scheduled for this afternoon.

The cause of Monday's three-alarm fire at the Super Speedy Deli is still unknown.
