Schumer Says Stimulus Will Include Weatherization Dollars
By Mark Scott
Washington, DC – US Senator Charles Schumer says the economic stimulus package that he expects Congress to pass soon contains millions of dollars to help New Yorkers seal, insulate and heat their homes.
Schumer says the stimulus package is likely to include $234.6 million for home weatherization projects in New York. He says 76 percent of all homes in the state were built before 1976, when home heating oil cost about 20 cents a gallon. Schumer says sealing windows, insulating and improving heating systems would save the average household roughly $800 annually. All told, hee says the average New Yorker will spend about $2,400 on utilities this year.
Schumer also says the Medicaid and school funding initiatives he's pushing remain in the package as negotiations continue in Washington.
