Amherst Town Board Rejects Downsizing Measure Again

By WBFO News

Amherst, NY – A resolution to cut the size of the Amherst Town Board from seven to five members was voted down by its members Monday night. It was the fourth time in the past year that the board voted down such a plan.

Supporters say the measure is meant to let voters decide the issue. Opponents say cutting the number of board members is not good for democracy.

After Monday's meeting, regionalism advocate Kevin Gaughan expressed his disappointment in the vote. He says he plans to start a citizens petition to let voters decide the downsizing issue.
