U.S. Attorney Terrance Flynn announces his resignation

By Eileen Buckley

Buffalo, NY – There will be a change in leadership at the U.S. Attorney's office in Buffalo. U.S. Attorney Terrance Flynn is resigning. Flynn met with reporters Tuesday morning to announce that the has submitted his resignation to the White House and Department of Justice.

Flynn was appointed to serve the Western District three years ago by the Bush Administration. It is expected the new Obama Administration would be making changes to the Buffalo office, but Flynn says he wanted to give President-elect Obama a head start by stepping down before he takes office.

"When the President-elect comes into office on the 20th, in this case President-elect Obama, he will have the ability, on that date, to start the process to select a new U.S Attorney for District of New York. It is very important that the U.S. Attorney in the District where you live is fully supported, completely, by the President and his Administration. I think it is very important that I give him that opportunity which is his right," said Flynn.

Flynn says over the last three years, under his leadership, the U.S Attorney's office has worked against healthcare fraud, child pornography, human trafficking, and watched for criminal activity along the U.S.-Canadian borders.

Flynn has accepted a job at the law firm of Harris Beach in Buffalo. His last day on the job as U.S Attorney is Friday, January 16th.
