Buffalo, NY – The Buffalo City Mission says it expects an increase in the number homeless seeking shelter as the weather turns colder and the economic mess deepens.
The City Mission's men's facility is already full. Executive director Stuart Harper says to be filled up in early October is a bit scary. He says as winter sets in there will be even more homeless seeking shelter. But Harper says no one will be turned away.
The City Mission has launched its fall campaign to raise $2.5 million to continue to offer shelter, food and programs for those in need. Harper says the average donation to the Mission is down. But he says they are confident the region will help support their goal. Harper says the Mission has been in business since 1917 and is one of the largest homeless facilities in Western New York.
