UNYTS Opens Blood Donation Center at DeGraff Memorial

By Drew Fitzpatrick

Buffalo, NY – A new community blood donation center opened Monday at DeGraff Memorial Hospital in North Tonawanda.

Officials from Kaleida Health and Upstate New York Transplant Services were on hand for the ribbon-cutting ceremony. UNYTS President Mark Simon said the new blood donation center is a tremendous accomplishment.

"To have a fixed site means that the residents of Niagara County and northern Erie County will have a place they can go on a regular basis to donate blood and help serve the local hospitals," Simon said.

When it launched its blood collection service one year ago, Upstate New York Transplant Services promised to reduce costs for hospitals by 30 percent. Simon says they've accomplished that. UNYTS is now the primary supplier of blood products for six hospital in Niagara and Wyoming Counties, including DeGraff Memorial.
