Buffalo, NY – Walking across the Peace Bridge, members of the Venceremos Brigade returned from their two week stay in Cuba Monday.
Every year members of the brigade travel to Cuba in defiance of the US travel ban. While in Cuba members participate in educational activities and relief.
Kathe Karlson who was in Cuba with the group says they were welcomed with open arms by the Cuban people.
"The Cuban people believe Americans are their friends," Karlson said. "Although our government has had an unjust policy toward that country for 50 years, they're very clear that we're their friends."
The Venceremos Brigade argues the travel restrictions are unconstitutional and inhumane.
