Smoky Fire on Niagara Street Finally Under Control
By WBFO News
Buffalo, NY – Fire crews remained on the scene Tuesday of a smoky three alarm fire at a Niagara Street pool supply company.
Two alarms were initially sounded just before 11am Monday. Firefighters seemed to have the blaze under control. But Fire Commissioner Michael Lombardo said the fire began spreading again, prompting a third alarm around 3pm.
Heavy smoke was seen for miles, and blanketed the West Side neighborhood near the warehouse. Nearby residents were warned to stay inside with their windows and doors closed. The northbound lanes of the 190 were closed for several hours Monday evening.
At least two Buffalo firefighters were treated for smoke inhalation at ECMC.
The fire was declared under control shortly before 7am Tuesday. Niagara Street was reopened to traffic around 9am.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
