Teachers Aide Charged in Abuse Case

By Eileen Buckley

Buffalo, NY – An Erie County Grand Jury has indicted a teacher's aide from the Discovery School in Buffalo on sexual abuse charges.

Sixty-year-old John Colazzi pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Wednesday. He was charged with first degree sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.

Colazzi allegedly had sexual contact with a four-year-old autistic student in a school bathroom last November. A teacher claims she witnessed the incident. But Erie County District Attorney Frank Clark says for some reason the School District did not report the incident until February.

Clark says his office has determined that the District did not willfully withhold the information, but failed to follow protocol. The Buffalo School District says now that the case is in the courts they are not commenting on the arrest.
