Roswell Park Honored for Quality of Care in Treating Complex and Rare Cancers

By Mark Scott

Buffalo, NY – The Roswell Park Cancer Institute is being recognized for the quality of its care in treating complex and rare cancers.

Roswell Park was designated as a "blue distinction" center by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association. Complex and rare cancers comprise about 15 percent of new cancer cases each year. The designation helps patients identify facilities that are proficient as treating specific types of cancer.

Roswell Park President Dr. Donald Trump credits both the staff and state-of-the-art technology for the honor.

Roswell Park was one of just five centers in New York and 84 nationwide to be so honored.

Trump says the designation should reassure patients who are making vital decisions at a time when they're most vulnerable.

A ceremony was held at Roswell Park yesterday where representatives of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Western New York were on hand to officially deliver the designation to Trump and his staff.
