Home Contractor Jailed for Violating Court Order

By Mark Scott

Buffalo, NY – A Buffalo area contractor who defied a court order barring him from the home construction business is now in jail.

Thirty-year-old Ronald Timmerman was sentenced this week to 90 days. Assistant State Attorney General Jim Morrisey says Timmerman scammed consumers out of thousands of dollars for work not performed and then deliberately violated subsequent court orders.

Morrisey admits that in most cases, unscrupulous contractors avoid jail time.

"I would describe this as very unusual," Morrisey said. "In the time I've been doing this work, this is the first time a home improvement contractor has gone to jail for violating a court order."

Morrisey says Timmerman will remain barred from the home improvement business until he pays $30,000 in restitution to former customers.
