American Axle's Tonawanda Forge Plant May Be Closed

By Eileen Buckley

Buffalo, NY – A deal that could end the American Axle strike would reportedly shut down the Tonawanda Plant.

Word out of Detroit Thursday says American Axle and the UAW are close to a deal that would end a two-month old walk-out. But the deal could shut down two plants, including the Tonawanda forge plant.

Striking workers outside the plant on Kenmore Avenue say they have not heard any official word from the union at this point. Mike Stockman tells WBFO'S Eileen Buckley he wouldn't be surprised if the reports are true.

American Axle also operates a plant in Cheektowaga.

The two area plants employ close to 600 workers.

American Axle's Buffalo plant on East Delavan Avenue was shuttered last year.
