Buffalo, NY – The Darwin Martin House Restoration Corporation held a ceremony Wednesday, marking the start of construction on the new visitors center for the landmark complex.
The glass-walled pavilion designed by architect Toshiko Mori will visually connect with the landscape surrounding the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home. Corporation President John Walsh says it will be very welcoming to visitors.
"It doesn't compete with the Martin House," Walsh said. "It tries to have a reasonably connected foot print. It embraces the spirituality of the Martin House."
Substantial funding for the pavilion was provided by the East Hill Foundation in honor of Eleanor and Wilson Greatbatch. The visitors center will be named after them.
It will be completed by the end of the year.
