American Axle Workers on Strike

By Mark Wozniak

Buffalo, NY – The United Auto Workers union has gone on strike against American Axle, after their current contract expired at midnight.

Negotiations in Detroit ended without a settlement last night, and the company says it does not know when talks will resume. At issue is the company's call for significant reductions in wages and benefits.

More than 500 workers are affected at the two American Axle facilities in Tonawanda and Cheektowaga. The company's East Delavan Avenue plant in Buffalo shut down production late last year.
