Buffalo, NY – Folk duo John & Mary (John Lombardo & Mary Ramsey) first came together in 1989 when their respective bands were serendipitously booked on the same bill. This fortunate coincidence eventually led to a deal with Rykodisc Records, and tours of the US and Europe.
John Lombardo, the acoustic guitarist & vocalist that appears on our stage tonight, was also one of 10,000 Maniacs' founding members (est. 1981).
And, upon the departure of Natalie Merchant from the beloved 10,000 Maniacs, it was Mary Ramsey that took the helm as frontwoman of the group.
This revamped version of the group released two more albums under the 10,000 Maniacs moniker - one on Geffen and another on illustrious independent label, Bar/None Records.
Now, formally as John & Mary and the Valkyries, the band continues its tradition of creating jangly, folkish pop gems.
