Buffalo, NY – Florida Panthers forward Richard Zednik sustained a deep gash across his neck during the third period of a 5-3 loss at Buffalo.
Zednik was clipped by the skate of teammate Olli Jokinen, who fell head-first to the ice after being upended by Sabres forward Clarke MacArthur. Zednik immediately raced to the Panthers bench, leaving a long trail of blood as he clutched his neck.
The crowd at HSBC Arena stood and applauded after the Sabres public address announcer passed along the news that Zednik was in stable condition.
Zednick underwent surgery at Buffalo General Hospital, where he was resting comfortably Monday morning.
