Tops Markets Has New Owner

By Eileen Buckley

Amherst, NY – The new owner of Tops Markets is promising to pump some local life back into the area supermarkets.

Morgan Stanley Private Equity has purchased the Tops chain from Royal Ahold for $310 million. What does this mean for area Tops stores and its employees? A return to a more localized supermarket chain.

The Tops headquarters will be re-established in Western New York, returning 100-jobs to the region. And a familiar face will also return to the chain, former C-E-O Frank Curci. Curci appeared yesterday at the Tops on Maple Road in Amherst, excited about reestablishing his position with the food stores.
