Union Ends Seven Year Boycott

By Eileen Buckley

Buffalo, NY – A seven year boycott by a local union against the Adam's Mark Hotel in downtown Buffalo has finally ended. The Operating Engineers Local 17 reached a new contract agreement with the hotel.

The Operating Engineers hammed out a new deal for 17 workers at the Adams Mark with Oxford Lodging Advisory, the company will soon be the new owner of the downtown hotel. Contract negotiations started in 2000 with HBE Corporation, the current owner. But when the union failed to reach a deal it issued a boycott against the Adams Mark.

The employees operate the heating and cooling plants within hotel, others are skilled maintenance workers, there is a grounds keeper and officer manager for the building services.
