Buffalo, NY – A place that was once a hotspot for nightlife along Buffalo's waterfront in the 1990's is coming down.
Demolition of the former Pier Restaurant began yesterday. Local leaders say it is a clear sign of real waterfront development.
Construction crews began razing the former Pier Restaurant off Furhmann Boulevard Monday. Demolition is marking the start of new waterfront development known as the Outer Harbor Greenbelt Project. U.S. Congressman Brian Higgins joined the NFTA at the site. Higgins says this will create proper access the Outer Harbor.
NFTA Commissioner Peter Demakos says the Authority is working to transfer 120-acres of waterfront land to the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation for redevelopment. The Greenbelt is slated to open in the Spring of '08.
