Buffalo, NY – Congresswoman Louise Slaughter says Attorney General Alberto Gonzales' resignation comes amid a "cloud of scandal and suspicion." The Western New York Democrat says Congress will continue to press for answers surrounding the dismissal of eight US attorneys.
UB Law Professor James Gardner says he is pleased with Monday's developments. Gardner describes Gonzales as a "poor" and "dishonest" attorney general.
Republican Congressman Ton Reynolds of Clarence says Gonzales was unable to perform his job because of "pervasive partisanship" in Washington. Reynolds says he hopes the next nominee will be afforded a fair hearing and will be confirmed without delay.
