Buffalo, NY – There are signs of some improvement for Buffalo fire fighter Mark Reed.
Fire Commissioner Michael Lombardo tells WBFO News that while Reed's condition is still critical, he was upgraded to stable by ECMC doctors Wednesday.
Reed was severely injured Sunday night while battling a vacant house fire. A chimney collapsed on Reed. Lombardo says Reed underwent surgery again Wednesday to remove debris from his leg.
Thursday, Lombardo says doctors want to start to wean Reed of respirator for very short periods of time check his level of consciousness.
Lombardo says Wednesday's change in Reed's condition was a only baby step, but offered Reed's wife and his parents hope.
