Capozzi Family Awaits Release

Buffalo, NY – A hearing is slated to take place Monday afternoon before a Buffalo judge in an effort to free 49 year old Anthony Capozzi.

The Buffalo man has served more than 20 years in prison for rapes he never committed. It was revealed last week that DNA proves Capozzi was not responsible for rape cases at Delaware Park in the 1980's. Instead, authorities say the DNA matches suspected bike path killer Altemio Sanchez.

A motion will be before Erie County Court judge Shirley Troutman that asks to free Capozzi from prison. If the request goes unopposed, Capozzi is expected to be a free man immediately after the court hearing. That is something the Capozzi family has been hoping would happen for the past 22 years. Kathy Jeras is Capozzi's sister. She says like the rest of her family, she never believed that her brother committed the rapes.
