Buffalo, NY – The area's top think-tank for the study of regional issues has changed its name to the University at Buffalo Regional Institute.
Since its founding in 1997, it had been known as the Institute for Local Governance and Regional Growth. The name change and new logo was unveiled Wednesday at a reception for supporters and local political leaders.
Institute Director Kate Foster said the new name betters coveys their regional focus.
"The new name connects us to UB," Foster said. "It is straightforward and simple to remember."
The Institute recently launched its redesigned website that connects users to data on such topics as the regional economy, public policy and demographic change.
It's currently engaged in a research program on cross-border issues affecting the Buffalo-Niagara region.
