Holt Pleads Guilty to Sales Tax Violation, Legislature Reorganizes

By Mark Scott

Buffalo, NY – Erie County Legislator George Holt pleaded guilty Monday to two misdemeanor violations of the state's sales tax law.

Holt failed to report sales tax he collected from a Buffalo restaurant he owns with his wife in 2004. He's agreed to make full restitution totaling more than $37,000 but he will not face any jail time.

Holt said he plans to keep his legislative seat.

Meanwhile, the County Legislature formally reappointed Lynn Marinelli as chairwoman, and Maria Whyte as majority leader Monday.

Orchard Park Republican John Mills is the new minority leader. He succeeds Barry Weinstein of Amherst, who gave up the leadership post last week after announcing he would not run for re-election this year.
