Life Without Parole for Phillips

By Eileen Buckley

Mayville, NY – Ralph Phillips will be spending a life time in prison. He was sentenced to life without parole in Chautuaqua County for the murder of State trooper Joseph Longobardo and 40 years to life for shooting and wounding trooper Donald Baker.

As Phillips left the court he told some troopers, including State Police Superintendent Wayne Bennett he would be back. But Bennett told reporters he doesn't think that will ever happen.

Phillips also appeared in a Buffalo courtroom. He was sentenced to 25 years to life for escaping from the Erie County Correctional Facility in Alden last April. The judge denied his request to withdraw his guilty pleas for the shootings and escape.

Phillips will also be sentence Wednesday in Chemung County for the shooting for another trooper in Elmira last June.

Dozens of state troopers packed both courtrooms to watch the sentencing. But some family and friends of Phillips also appeared to support him.
