Ferro Corp. to Close Niagara Falls Plant

By Mark Scott

Buffalo, NY – A Western New York company that makes products for the electronics industry is shutting down, putting 150 people out of work.

Officials at the Ferro Corporation announced yesterday that the company's Niagara Falls plant will close by the end of 2007. Ferro says declining demand for the industrial ceramic materials the plant produces is the reason for the shutdown.

Niagara Falls Mayor Vince Anello says the loss of jobs is significant.

Cleveland-based Ferro expects to transfer some of the work at the Niagara Falls plant to its Penn Yan production facility in the Finger Lakes region.

Ferro is a billion-dollar company with 6,800 employees in 20 countries.
