UB President and Others Welcome Dalai Lama

By Eileen Buckley

Buffalo, NY – The Dalai Lama arrived in Western New York just before 12 noon on Monday. He flew into Prior Aviation Airport on a private jet.

The Dalai Lama arrived on a jet owned by Delaware North. CEO Jeremy Jacobs is chairman of the U-B Council. Jacobs, a few of his family members, UB's Vice Provost for International Education Stephen Dunnett, a group of Tibetan students attending UB and Buffalo State college, and University President John Simpson greeted the Dalai Lama.

The media was not allowed inside Prior Aviation hanger. But from a distance, reporters watched through a chain link fence to see the leader emerge from the jet. He was wearing his traditional red robe with yellow stripe.

Simpson says the Dalai Lama spoke English, thanked everyone and said he was pleased to be here. He described the Dalai Lama as "beaming with happiness."
