Buffalo, NY – U-S Senator Charles Schumer says companies willing to set up ethanol plants, where there is a "desperate shortage" of the fuel, deserve federal tax breaks.
Schumer appeared in Buffalo Wednesday at the site of the future RiverWright Ethanol plant.
The company plans to create an $80 million ethanol facility at former industrial land along the Buffalo River.
The Senator used the site as a back drop to launch his proposed legislation. Schumer says companies like RiverWright deserve tax credits for taking a chance to increase ethanol production in New York State.
"This is a win across the board. RiverWright is doing it on its own and it should be encouraged. It is beginning to happen. There will another ethanol plant in Orleans County and this one right here," said Schumer.
Schumer says Buffalo's future ethanol plant is a win, win for the city and Western New York farmers. It will mean economic development, new jobs and a place for area farmers to sell more corn.
