More Kids Attending City Summer School

By Mark Wozniak

Buffalo, NY – The Buffalo School Board Wednes night received an update from Superintendent James Williams on his summer school program.

The program is considered mandatory for nearly 5,500 students with sub-par grades in the pre-K through Grade 2 level, and in seventh and eighth grades.

Williams says the program is meant to help struggling students improve.

"Last year, I had 1,300 kids who were not ready for the ninth grade," Williams said. "I'm going to put a stop to it. I'm here to help children."

Attendance levels Wednesday were reported at 62.7 percent, up from less than 49 percent on Monday.
