Charter Review Commission Presents Recommendations to County Legislature

Buffalo, NY – The Erie County Charter Revision Commission submitted its recommendations to the County Legislature Tuesday.
The Commission was established last year with the charge of examining government operations and responsibilities. County Legislature Chairperson Lynn Marinelli says lawmakers will spend the next several weeks reviewing and acting on the proposed changes to the county charter.
"We will go through these recommendations. We have a very quick timeline to go through anything that may go before voters in the 2006 election," Marinelli said. "There may also be items that need further deliberations and vetting that carry us into 2007."
Marinelli says that the county charter has not been updated for decades. One of the more controversial recommendations calls for a hybrid-form of county management consisting of an elected executive and an appointed manager.
