Buffalo, NY – The state Education Department has released data on violent and disruptive incidents in schools across the state. The move comes after an audit by the state comptroller's office said the information hasn't been posted early enough for parents to decide whether to transfer their children to safer schools.
The data made public Monday is available on the department's Web site and covers incidents during the 2003-2004 and 2004-2005 school years.
Ironically, release of the data came on a day when Buffalo police responded to a report of student with a gun at the Bennett High School Annex. It turned out to be a B-B gun. But Buffalo Teachers Federation President Philip Rumore says such behavior cannot be tolerated.
The student was suspended and arrested. Police say the B-B gun was a replica of a Glock service revolver police use.
