Police Step Up Patrols to Stem Club Violence

By Mark Wozniak

Buffalo, NY – The outdoor party season has begun in Buffalo, as evidenced by the season premier of the 20th annual Thursday in the Square.

Buffalo police are stepping up patrols in the entertainment district, especially in the wake of a fight at a downtown nightclub last weekend, and the shooting death of a man in a car at around the same time.

Police chief Donna Berry says they will make arrests if necessary.

"We want to let people know that they can't be drinking out in public," Berry said. "They need to stay on the patios where it's permitted. There will be no drinking in the streets."

Berry says all police want is for people to respect each other.
