Authorities Target Scam Artists Who Prey on Elderly

By Anthea Passmore

Amherst, NY – The federal government is cracking down on scam artists who target the elderly. Appearing at the Senior Center in Amherst Monday, Congressman Tom Reynolds said elderly people need to beware of offers that seem too good to be true.

"We want to make sure that seniors know that there are scam artists and others out there who are trying to wrangle their investments or get them into some sort of program that may not necessarily be the type they want," Reynolds said.

This area's US Attorney, Terry Flynn, says federal regulators have initiated 26 investigations in the past two years against those responsible for scamming the elderly.
