Schumer Disappointed at Miers' Lack of Answers

By Jill Morrison

Washington, DC – US Senator Charles Schumer met with President Bush's second Supreme Court nominee Monday.

Cameras flashed as Harriet Miers shook hands with Schumer in the lobby of the Senator's office. But after the meeting the Senator expressed frustration with Miers. Schumer says he asked Miers questions ranging from abortion to the right to privacy and she didn't answer.

"I couldn't tell you how I would vote because she offered very little in terms of her own experience and very little on her judicial philosophy," Schumer said. "To be quite honest with you I just have no idea what it is.

Schumer says he heard the same frustrations from constituents while traveling around the state last week. He plans to meet once more with Miers before her confirmation hearings begin next month.
