Golisano Switches to Republican Party in Anticipation of Governor's Run

By Mark Scott

Buffalo, NY – Thomas Golisano, the owner of the Buffalo Sabres, has enrolled in the Republican Party, setting up his potential run for governor next year.

His adviser, Steven Pigeon, said Golisano enrolled in the GOP Tuesday, beating a Friday deadline to switch his party enrollment.

Political analysts say the switch is intended to keep Golisano's options open for a possible campaign that could unite the Republican, Conservative and Independence lines against Democratic candidate Eliot Spitzer.

Golisano lost in his three previous runs for governor as the Independence Party candidate.
