Buffalo, NY – A local effort begins Wednesday to encourage people to register to vote. The Buffalo Niagara Association of Realtors is sponsoring a program called "Go Vote."
When people relocate they often forget to re-register to vote. That's why local realtors have decided to step in and help encourage voter registration.
Dan Locche, government affairs director for the Buffalo Niagara Association of Realtors, says the "Go Vote" program has a two pronged approach that also reminds realtors to make sure they are registered to vote.
"One of the things that we are doing is we are promoting the realtors to vote and at the same time we are promoting residents to vote," Locche said. "When people walk through houses, or for people who are relocating, we are promoting them to register and vote in the upcoming elections."
Loccke says the "Go Vote" program will also assist those who are relocating outside the region.
"Whether they are actually moving to this area or from this area we are providing them with voter registration forms," Locche said.
The deadline to register for November's general election is October 14th. The Association is kicking off this campaign Wednesday, and area realtors will be wearing red, white and blue "Go Vote" pins to promote their effort.
