Search Continues for Victims of Lake Erie Plane Crash

By Associated Press

Buffalo, NY – Authorities resumed their search in Lake Erie Monday for a plane carrying a Pennsylvania couple and their pilot.

Debris believed to be from the plane was found in Lake Erie Sunday, about a mile from an oil slick. Spokeswoman Cindy Blair says the US Coast Guard plans to assist the New York State Police with a sonar scan of the area where debris was found.

Kevin Jesteadt, 24, planned to propose to Lindsey Myers, 23, during the flight Friday night, followed by a housewarming and engagement party in Edinboro on Saturday night. Jesteadt had gotten his best friend, pilot James Regal, of Butler, Pennsylvania, to take them up in a single-engine Cherokee. But on the way back to Pennsylvania, something went wrong.

The plane disappeared from radar, with no distress call.
