Buffalo, NY – US Congressman Brian Higgins has outlined a plan for immediate access to Buffalo's waterfront. Higgins says $14 million in federal funding will be used to create a "Class A" parkway along Fuhrman Boulevard. Higgins says resources will also be used to figure out what to do with the 50-year-old Skyway.
"We are looking at alternatives to the Skyway. They include tunneling and a series of shorter span lift bridges linking Route 5 to downtown Buffalo and downtown Buffalo with the Outer Harbor," Higgins said.
Higgins says improvements to the Outer Harbor can't occur without improving access. He says design of the parkway will begin this year, with construction in 2006.
